Abstract
Board members can and should take a more active role in setting the vision, ensuring that senior managers are executing the values and strategies to achieve the vision, and monitoring the organization for risk that can unravel the march to the vision. Without turning board role sinto full-time jobs, board members can charge the leadership team and independent third-party sources to provide them with the information needed to independently evaluate risks and assess the strategic and operational well being of the organizations that they govern.
